Introduction to Psychic Skills
and Tools
Psychics have a variety of
skills and tools that are used to help others. Most people think
that consulting a psychic is all about predictions. But, let me
clear something up from the very beginning. A
fortune teller and a psychic are not the same thing!
Psychics are individuals who
have a wide range of tools. We don't just see, feel and sense into the
future! Many of us sense much, much more than just events that are going
to happen. (See the article, "The Many
Faces of A Psychic" and "How
Can A Psychic Help Your Relationship?" to learn more about what it
is that a psychic does and can do beyond mere prediction!)
In fact, you should know that
no psychic is 100% or even 85% accurate. Even if the psychic markets
herself as a high percentage of accuracy....don't believe it!
There is no true way to gauge accuracy since there is no way to keep in
contact with all the many people that consult a particular psychic.
Free will of all individuals
involved- that includes you as well as the person you are asking about-
determines the outcome more than any psychic prediction ever can! Please
remember this important fact.
So,
let's get off the subject of predictions because...
psychics do so very much more.
Psychics are people who have a
heightened state of intuition. The skills they rely on have to do
with what can be called sensory channels. We all know about the
five basic senses of sight, sound, smell, touch and feeling.
Psychics will use a variety or
combination of these basic five sense in addition to the added
sixth sense known as intuition. Intuition is a skill and a
tool. Just having good intuition is not enough for someone to call
herself a psychic. Skillful use of intuition is a
prerequisite for a good psychic counselor.
Psychics vary in their use of
particular sensory channels. Some rely most on the channel of
sight. These psychics are called clairvoyant. In our culture, the
visual channel is more highly respected than the other sensory channels.
There is evidence of this in the way we are taught in school using a
blackboard to get the information across. Greco-Roman cultures put
primacy on the written, visual experience over other types of knowing.
This bias translates into
clairvoyants being regarded as more real than psychics who use the
other channels as well. This, of course, is a limited view.

Information that comes through
the auditory (hearing) channel is referred to as clairaudient.
Clairsentient is when a psychic feels in her physical
body or her emotional body a particular piece of information. Please,
again, let's not assume that the information is of a predictive nature!
Tools Are
A Means To An End
As for the tools a psychic may
use, let me say that they are of a great, great variety. The tools
range from tea leaves, to tarot cards, to use of a deepening breath. If
you did a serious study of psychic instruments, you would find that the
culture of the psychic often dictates the tools used as reliable by the
psychic to transmit information.
A tool is just that - a
tool. It is not the tool that determines if a person is psychic
but rather the blending of the tool with the person's skillful use
of intuition. I've seen people who channel information while
simply doodling on a pad. It is not the pictures that are
speaking. It is simply the motion of the hand that is taking the
psychic out of his head using a repetitive movement to create a
trance-like state.
Tarot cards are used much in
the same way. They are not translated so much as the cards with images
and color pull the psychic out of the ordinary left brain into the right
brain which is the seat of intuition. People think that the cards
have the information and that all anyone has to do is read the
interpretation for a particular card and all is known. Again, this
is a narrow view.
Some people even distrust a
psychic who uses cards or other concrete tools because they think that
the person is not psychic but only doing an interpretation. What a funny
way to think but I have heard people say many foolish things. A
better understanding of psychic abilities is needed now that more and
more people are turning to psychics as counselors, consultants and
advisors.
